SmartNotch is made by Abhinay Vundavilli. This page describes the website at smartnotch.lol and the Windows app.
The website
There is no account. The buy form sends your email to our server only long enough to open a Dodo checkout at the current price. We do not save that email.
We do keep aggregate counts, because the price depends on them and the site shows them: page visits, downloads, checkout starts, and completed purchases. A first-party cookie named sn_seen lasts 30 days so the same browser is not counted as a new person on every refresh. It is not an advertising cookie. We also store the site name or utm_source a visit came from, not the full link. Bots are skipped. The purchase count goes up only when a signed Dodo webhook says the payment succeeded, and it goes down if that payment is refunded.
Payments
Dodo Payments is the merchant of record. They collect billing details, charge the card, email the license key, and keep the records they need for tax, fraud, refunds, and license activation. Their privacy policy applies to that data. We do not receive or store your card number.
The app
Tasks, habits, notes, clipboard history, timer state, and the API keys you paste stay on the PC. Notes are markdown files in your Documents folder. Analytics panels call the services you configure, from the app, using the keys you supplied. SmartNotch does not run a sync server. The app trial lasts 24 hours from first launch and is stored on the PC. After that, the panel stays locked until a license key is activated.
Activating a license sends the key and a device name (SmartNotch plus your Windows computer name) to Dodo’s license API so the key can be checked and, if you were refunded, turned off. A successful check is remembered locally so the app keeps working offline for about three weeks. We do not receive a copy of that check.
